Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS)

In Early Years the Curriculum is divided into Prime and Specific areas.
The Prime areas include personal and social development, communication and language and physical development. The Specific areas include literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, expressive arts and design. The subjects within each area are listed below. This covers all aspects of learning to prepare a child for their education journey.
The Prime areas include personal and social development, communication and language and physical development. The Specific areas include literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, expressive arts and design. The subjects within each area are listed below. This covers all aspects of learning to prepare a child for their education journey.

Within each subject area there are age bands with statements to show what a child should be able to do at each age. These are 0-11months, 8-20 months,16-26 months, 22-36 months, 30-50 months, 40-60 months and the Early Learning Goals (ELG). Children are expected to be able to reach the ELG by the end of Reception.
To help us measure progress we assess the children as emerging (C) as they enter a new age band, expected (B) as they are working confidently within an age band and exceeding (A) as they have mastered the statements within a band.
