Homework @ Nursery
We do not send 'formal' homework each week but we do encourage children to continue learning through play at home.
We want all children to develop their love of books and reading. To this end we have a library which is situated in the entrance hall. There is a good range of books; There are fiction (story) books and non-fiction (information) books, we try and cater for all likes and interests that children are invited to borrow. We just ask that books are signed out and in.
Each child in Ladybirds, Caterpillars and Butterflies classes can take a 'Reading book' every week to encourage them to enjoy sharing a book at home; discussing the pictures, sequencing the story and even predicting what might happen. This helps them get into good reading practices ready for school. Parents are encouraged to choose and change these.
We also have a
-story of the week
-a sound of the week and
-a shape of the week
(We also have an adult library for parents and carers. For this, we ask that you bring and leave a book as you take another.)
Each term we send home a learning challenge- this is a curriculum based activity for children to enjoy completing with their grown ups. Children bring the results into Nursery to celebrate and share with their class.
