PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND NUTRITION
Mrs Collins is the Nursery Physical Activity and Nutrition Co-ordinator (PANCO).
PHYSICAL ACTIVITY ADVICE
Children under five should be active throughout the day- standing, moving around, skipping, hopping, running and jumping. They should be climbing, riding, chasing and playing with small games equipment. The British Heart Foundation recommends children who are walking should be active for at least three hours spread throughout the day.

NUTRITION ADVICE
Food
Children's appetites are affected by growth cycles. It is common for children to be really hungry one day and picky the next. The best way for children to learn to eat new foods is to copy adults. Remember
-give small portions
-don't leave meals until children are too hungry or too tired
-Be patient if your child is a slow eater
-Don't give too many snacks between meals (two healthy snacks a day is plenty)
Don't use food as a reward or punishment
-Sit together and talk at meal times
-If your child refuses to eat food one way, try it in a different way e.g. try grating carrots instead of baton carrots
Drink
- Between meals offer your child milk or water as these are tooth friendly
-Encourage your child to drink from an open topped cup
