LETTER FROM THE CHAIR OF GOVERNORS
Hello,
Firstly, thank you for visiting the school website. I am Debra Cannings and I am proud to be the Chair of Governors at Westfield Nursery School. I have a passion for early years education and having spent my working life as a teacher and headteacher in primary schools I am pleased to be able to continue my involvement with young children’s learning in my retirement.
The Governing body at Westfield is a small group of volunteers who work in partnership with the headteacher and staff to ensure the best possible experience and outcomes for the children. We oversee and monitor the curriculum, policies and budget and visit the school regularly to find out for ourselves what is going on and to listen to the views of the children, staff and families.
The governors are a diverse group with different experiences and backgrounds. This is essential so that different views, ideas and opinions can be expressed. Parents are also included in the membership of the governing body, though it can be difficult to recruit them. If you are a parent who is interested in making sure Westfield Nursery offers a high quality learning experience for the children and their families perhaps you would consider being a parent governor. No experience or qualification is necessary. If you are interested please speak to Sam Hitchcock in the school office.
I always enjoy my visits to the nursery and come away full of amazement at how independent, well behaved, inquisitive and happy your children are whilst they are at nursery.
I look forward to continuing in my role with the support of my fellow governors and the school staff.
Should you wish to contact me to discuss any matter please do so by emailing me [email protected] or you can always drop into the school and leave a message at reception. I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible throughout the year.
Yours sincerely,
Debra Cannings

GOVERNOR VACANCY- CAN YOU HELP?
Anyone can play a vital role in the management of the nursery by becoming a school governor. No qualifications are needed, simply an interest in education.
If you are interested, please talk to the Head Teacher or any other member of staff for further information. Membership of the governing body is reviewed every four years. Every parent/ carer is eligible to become a parent governor by election when a vacancy occurs.
Meetings are held once a term for governors to act as a critical friend and oversee the running of the school. Any governor may be contacted through the school office.
