OUTSIDE LEARNING

At Westfield Nursery we are lucky to have fabulous outdoor learning areas. We have two garden spaces, one for the two year old children and one for the three and four year old children. We also have an area for our 'Forest School'.
We strongly believe in the benefits of outdoor learning and go out everyday whatever the weather so we strongly encourage parents and carers to provide suitable clothing and footwear. The benefits of outdoor learning include:
-encouraging active life styles
-encouraging children to understand 'risk' taking
-encouraging children to appreciate the natural world and how to look after it
-encouraging social skills and collaborative working
-encouraging independence
-encourages problem solving
-encourage positive self-esteem
-supporting positive mental and spiritual health
-opportunities to engage with wildlife
-opportunities to engage with weather during the changing seasons

-growing, picking and tasting
-digging and the mud kitchen
-bug hotel
-nature and plants
-sand and water
-climbing, swinging, sliding and balancing
-blocks and building
